Doctoral Research
I am currently pursuing a PhD at the Science, Technology and Society Division of Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a specific focus on Gender and Medical Technologies. My doctoral project seeks to follow the development of the Artificial Amniotic Sac and Placenta Technology -commonly referred to as the Artificial Womb or the Artificial Placenta - a technology still on the horizon, yet promising to shift the ways in which we understand neo-natal care, technological assistance within obstetrics, and perhaps reproduction and reproductive technologies at large. The project focuses on the everyday work done towards the 'making' of the technology, from a Science and Technology Studies (STS) lens, and uses an ethnographic approach to follow the day-to-day of scientists and technologists working in one of several research groups involved in the realization of the AAPT.
